Overview

Dial-up networking refers to the use of a modem and a telephone line to connect your computer to a larger network (e.g., the IU network). Once connected, you can use email clients and web browsers to send and receive data, including files, web pages, and email. At IU, dial-up networking is one way to connect to the IU network from off campus. You can also reach the Internet and the IU network from off campus by using another Internet service provider (ISP).

Configuring your computer

The PPP Wizard or the "Connect to IU" software (available on the IUware CD or from IUware Online) will configure your Windows computer automatically to make a modem connection. Instructions on how to do this manually for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux are available below:
