At Indiana University Bloomington, a variety of telephone service feature packages are available to faculty and staff members. In the table below, select the appropriate link for details regarding each individual feature.

Note: The funding model for telecommunication and network charges at IUB and IUPUI has changed as of July 1, 2011. Many phone features will be included in a basic bundle at no charge; those listed as a la carte will continue to be billed at the same rate. For more information about the changes, see ARCHIVED: About changes in funding for telecommunication and network services at IUB and IUPUI. Additional rate information is available at Rates for Direct-Bill Services FY 2011-12.

Note:
The following applies only to traditional phones. If your traditional phone has been replaced by the UniCom service (using Skype for Business and/or a USB or IP phone), see ARCHIVED: UniCom (unified communications).

Following are detailed descriptions of all features available:

Feature Description
Automatic Dial
Allows you to program a button to automatically dial another number
Busy Lamp Field/Direct Station Select
The Busy Lamp Field feature allows you to monitor a line for use, and requires a special button. Direct Station Select allows the BLF button to act like an auto dial button for fast transfer. This eliminates the need to have both an MADN button and an Auto Dial Button.
Caller ID
Allows you to see the phone number of the person calling
Caller ID with Call Waiting
Displays the calling party's number and sounds the call waiting tone
Call Forward Busy
Allows call forwarding to a preselected number when your line is busy
Call Forward Busy Fixed
Allows you to toggle the Call Forward Busy feature on or off. The number where calls will forward is preselected.
Call Forward Busy Programmable
Allows you to change the destination number where calls will forward when your line is busy
Call Forward Don't Answer
Allows call forwarding to a preselected number after your line rings three times
Call Forward Don't Answer Fixed
Allows you to toggle the Call Forward Don't Answer feature on or off. The number where calls will forward is preselected.
Call Forward Don't Answer Programmable
Allows you to change the destination number to where calls will forward when your line is not answered in three rings
Call Forward Don't Answer Variable Timing
Allows you to select how many times your phone will ring before calls are forwarded, from two to ten rings. The system default is three rings.
Call Forward Universal
Allows you to forward all of your incoming calls to another number. This feature overrides Call Forward Busy and Call Forward Don't Answer.
Call Park
Allows you to park a call against your number and retrieve that call from another telephone line
Call Pickup
Allows you to answer an incoming call on another phone within the same call pickup group
Call Screening
Allows you to program a list of up to 31 telephone numbers from which calls are to be rejected or blocked. Callers are routed to an announcement informing them that the called party does not wish to receive the call. (Available only with campus numbers, Bloomington numbers, and the 824 exchange; will not work with long distance numbers, 876 numbers, or cellular telephone numbers.)
Call Transfer/Three-Way Calling
Allows you to transfer an incoming call to another line or to host a three-party conference call by staying on the line
Call Waiting
Plays a tone on the line to notify you that another call is trying to reach you. You can answer the second call or allow it to go unanswered. If you answer, you can toggle between the two calls using the Call Hold feature.
Dial Call Waiting
Allows you to send a Call Waiting tone against a phone by dialing a feature access code prior to dialing the on-campus five-digit number
Directed Call Park
Allows a call to be "parked" or held against a phone number you enter. The call can then be retrieved from any location by dialing an access code and the number the call is parked against.
Directed Call Pickup
Allows you to answer a specific ringing telephone, whether or not it is in your call pickup group, by dialing the access code plus the station number
Fast Transfer
Allows faster transfer capabilities. This is particularly useful when a station requires transfer capabilities different from the customer group parameters that are assigned with the Three-Way Calling feature.
Group Intercom
Allows you to place and receive calls between group members using a one-, two-, or three-digit code. The group of phones is identified and each is assigned a group intercom (GIC) number. Each phone may then be dialed using its GIC number. This feature requires a special button on a multi-line telephone.
Intercom
Creates a direct intercom path between two business sets; button required on each set
Key Short Hunt
Allows incoming calls to hunt through the keys on a business set to find an available number when the numbers assigned to these keys are primary on that set
Last Number Redial
Allows you to redial the last number that was dialed on your set by dialing ##
Last Number Redial/All
On a multi-line telephone, allows you to dial ## to redial the last number dialed from any line on a set
Make Set Busy
Allows you to turn off ringing for all lines on your set. This feature requires a special button on a multi-line telephone.
Meridian Business Set Camp On
Recommended for answering points that only make calls to numbers appearing on the mini console set. From the mini console, any call transferred to a busy line will "camp on" the line. The called party hears a call waiting tone, and he or she can accept or ignore the call. If the call is not answered, it returns to the mini console.
Message Waiting
Allow you to activate the Message Waiting Lamp on another phone line. If the recipient responds, your phone is automatically dialed. This feature also allows you to respond if Message Waiting has been activated against your set, and will indicate when you have a voice mail message in your voice mail box.
Multiple Appearance Directory Number (MADN)
Allows your number to appear on another business set or add-on module on any key other than key one (each business set must have a unique Primary Directory Number on key one). Appearance can ring or not ring on incoming calls.
Ring Again
Allows you to activate the feature when you encounter a busy signal on campus. When the busy line is free, on a business set, you will hear a tone. Dial the Ring Again button, and the line will be dialed automatically. On a single line set, when the busy line is free, your set will ring three times. Pick up your handset and the line will be dialed automatically.
Six-Party Conference
Allows you to host up to a six-party conference call. This feature requires a special button.
Speed Call Long
Allows you to be the controller of thirty Speed Call numbers within your group; used in conjunction with Speed Call User
Speed Call Short
Allows you to program a list of ten frequently called numbers and dial these using the access code or key, plus one digit
Speed Call User
Allows you to share a list of thirty Speed Call numbers with your group. One member of the group must have Speed Call Long to program the list.
Unified Messaging Service
Allows you to have your calls deposited in the voice mail system, via Call Forward Busy, Call Forward Don't Answer, and Call Forward Universal
