Assistive technology services at IU

Assistive Technology and Accessibility Centers (ATAC)

The Assistive Technology and Accessibility Centers (ATAC) at Indiana University provide a wide range of services for qualifying students, faculty, and staff with disabilities, as well as comprehensive course accessibility evaluation, consulting, presentations, and training for the IU community.

Hardware, software, and alternate media

  • Common adaptive applications (JAWS, TextHelp Read&Write, and ZoomText) are available on all Windows workstations in the Student Technology Centers computer labs.
  • Software and hardware loaner program (available to students without fee on a per semester basis; 30-day loans for faculty and staff)
    • Software to assist those with a range of impairments in reading, writing, and studying
    • Alternative input devices and ergonomic hardware solutions
    • Magnification equipment to assist those with vision impairment
  • Alternate media creation (available to students without fee)
    • Accessible Microsoft Word files or ePubs
    • Braille and tactile graphics for the visually impaired
    • Captions and transcripts for multimedia content
    • Video descriptions
