Registering your computer on the IU network

In many cases, you need to register your computer's MAC address before you can connect to the Indiana University network. At IU Bloomington and IUPUI, this requirement extends to all campus and Greek housing and wired (Ethernet) connections in offices and meeting rooms. In these cases, until you register your computer or device, it will not be able to receive an IP address that will allow it to establish a connection to the Internet.

If you live on campus or in one of the Greek houses listed below, run Get Connected:

  • Delta Tau Delta
  • Phi Gamma Delta
  • Gamma Phi Beta
  • Phi Mu
  • Phi Kappa Sigma

Running this software will begin an automatic configuration process during which you will be prompted to register your computer on the web.

Note: You can use Get Connected to register your Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, or Mac OS X (10.3 and later) computer to use the Indiana University network in campus housing. Computers running Windows 2000 or Linux, as well as game consoles, must be manually registered. For help, contact the UITS Support Center. You cannot register earlier versions of Windows on the IU network in campus housing.

Note: If you live in any IUB or IUPUI residence hall or campus apartment, you need to re-register your computer every fall semester. For more, see In IU campus housing, why do I have to re-register my computer in the fall?

The IU Secure wireless network is available in all IU Bloomington and IUPUI residence halls (with the exception of Wright), along with the Campus View Apartments. If IU Secure is not yet available in your campus residence, you may operate a properly configured wireless access point (WAP) as an exception to the IT-19 Extending the University Data Network and IT-20 Wireless Networking policies from the University Information Policy Office (UIPO). Once IU Secure is available in your residence, this exception will no longer apply and you will need to remove your WAP from the network. For details, see Wireless access points in residence halls without IU wireless networks

Registering your computer in other on-campus locations

To register your computer if it's not located in campus housing, visit:

https://dhcp.iu.edu/

Click the link for IU users (do not log in using the "Guest Username:" and "Guest Password:" fields). After you click the link, you will be prompted to authenticate using your Network ID. You will then see the registration page. Read the user agreement and click I agree to proceed. When you have completed the form, shut down your computer and wait for five minutes. After five minutes, you can start your computer and access the Internet.

For help or to report a problem with the network or IU computer services, contact the Support Center.
